Meghalaya HC seeks action after 3,950 MT coal vanishes from depots

Guwahati The Supreme Court of Meghala asked the state government to find out how 3,950.15 metric tones (MT) disappeared from two coal stores of illegal mined coal.

The Lost Coal was emphasized by Justice BP Katakey, a retired judge who was assigned to monitor coal mining and transportation problems in Meghalaya a few years ago.

According to the report, Meghaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) recorded 3,960.95 mt coal in the warehouses determined in the villages of Dengngan and Rajaju some time ago. Denggan is in Ri-Bhoi and Rajaju in Western Khasi Hills regions respectively.

However, during a recent examination by the regional officials, the inventory was found only 2.5 mt coal instead of 1,839.03 mt.

Similarly, only 8 mt coal was found in the Rajaju warehouse, which was the remains of 2,121.62 mt coal previously recorded by the MBDA. The missing volume worked up to 3,950.15 mt.

On Thursday, July 24, justice HS Thangkhiew and a division of justice W. Dengdoh, illegally, is an issue on the removal of mined coal by unknown people. He also asked the government to watch people who illegally lifted coal.

The court observed a status report on the steps taken illegally about mined coal in another region (South Garo Hills) and the elimination of coal from two warehouses, but did not provide any information other than indicating that the Fir was placed.

In April 2014, the National Green Court banned coal mining, but the organizations in Meghalaya claim that it did not stop the illegal mining and transport of fossil fuel.

The ineffectiveness of the ban has been clearly seen from a few mishaps in the rats of rats and has killed at least 40 miners for more than a decade. High wages are often attracted by Assam to these mines.

Surveyors also found that the inventory coal volume in some warehouses did not decrease from time to time even after auction and transportation. The reason for this was that the stock continued to be renewed fresh and illegally by mined coal.
