Private bus operators in Kerala to decide on Statewide motor strike on July 6

A joint consultative meeting held by bus operators associations in Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, decided to hold a detailed meeting for bus operators, auto taxi operators and tourist bus operators on July 6. The meeting will call for a State-wide motor strike following the implementation of Priyadarshini’s free bus travel scheme for women and transgender people. According to T. Gopinathan of the All Kerala Bus Operators Organization, the meeting unanimously decided to bring together autotaxi and bus workers as part of efforts to increase the demands of private bus operators. Private bus operators are not against free travel. However, they said the state government should bear the losses incurred by private bus operators due to the implementation of the scheme.
