Mumbai rains today: Financial capital records over 150 mm rain in 24 hours; Mandavi tops rainfall chart

Eight people were injured when a tree collapsed on them following heavy rains in Mumbai’s Santacruz area on Thursday afternoon, civic officials said.
The incident took place around 2.02 pm at a private building near Raheja College in Santacruz (West), Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a statement.
While civilian workers were going to investigate a fallen tree, another tree collapsed on them, injuring eight people. The statement stated that all the injured were taken to Nanavati Hospital and their condition was stable.
Earlier this week, an 11-year-old boy died and four others were injured when a tree fell on a moving school bus in Chembur district.
The BMC said it received 91 complaints of trees and branches falling, nine short circuits and four partial house or wall collapses on Thursday. There was no loss of life in the short circuit and house collapse incidents.
After heavy rain in the morning, moderate rainfall was observed in Mumbai throughout the day; Colaba observatory recorded 15.6 mm of rainfall and Santacruz observatory recorded 17.4 mm of rainfall between 17:30. BMC’s automatic rain gauge network recorded an average rainfall of 23 mm in Island City, 28 mm in the eastern suburbs and 32 mm in the western suburbs from 8 am to 6 pm on Thursday.
In the island city, Malabar Hill recorded 145.8 mm of rainfall, followed by B Ward Office (140.8 mm), Menonwada Fire Station (140.2 mm) and Municipal Head Office (139.2 mm).
Among the western suburbs, Malpa Dongari Municipal School in Andheri recorded the highest rainfall at 136.6 mm, followed by N East Regional Office (134.6 mm), Versova WWTF and Lagoons (129.4 mm), Versova Pumping Station (128.8 mm) and Andheri Fire Station (128.6 mm).
In the eastern suburbs, the highest rainfall of 124 mm was recorded at Paspoli Powai Municipal School; followed by Mankhurd Fire Station (117.8 mm), S Ward Office (116.2 mm) and Gawanpada Fire Station (115.6 mm).
Data shows that heavy rainfall is common across Mumbai, with more than 100 mm of rain recorded in several places in the city and suburbs in a 24-hour period.
IMD issues orange alert in Mumbai
Following heavy monsoon showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has upgraded the weather alert to Orange Alert, as reported by ANI.
The financial capital is in complete disarray due to widespread waterlogging, paralyzed major traffic corridors and two tragic deaths directly linked to civil infrastructure failures.
Several areas of Mumbai, including Dadra East and Sion Gandhi Market, faced severe waterlogging, further worsening commuting woes and disrupting the daily life of citizens.
With the weather agency forecasting heavy showers to continue over the next 24 hours, civil authorities urged residents to avoid non-essential travel as emergency crews continued to clear debris across the waterlogged metropolis.
8 people injured as a result of falling tree in Santacruz
Eight people were injured when a tree collapsed in Mumbai’s Santacruz area on Thursday afternoon, following heavy rains.
In the statement made by BMC, it was stated that the incident took place at around 14.02 in a private building near Raheja College in Santacruz (West).
While civilian workers were there to inspect a fallen tree, another tree fell on the team, injuring eight people who were later taken to Nanavati Hospital.
As of early Thursday, the city received 91 complaints about falling trees and branches, nine complaints about short circuits and four complaints about partial house or wall collapse. There was no loss of life in the short circuit and house collapse incidents.
