Station Commander Craig Fenner, who was at the scene, said: “Fire crews are working hard to bring the incident under control.

“One of the brigade’s 64-metre spiral staircases is used as a water tower at the scene to attack the flames from above. Drones have also been deployed to provide the Incident Commander with greater situational awareness of the incident.

“The fire is causing some fire in the surrounding area and people living or working nearby are advised to keep windows and doors closed.

“Elmwood Road is closed between London Road and Lodge Road, and Wellington Road is closed between Elmwood Road and Saint James’s Road. Please avoid this area where possible.”
