SKM delegation to join Cockroach Janta Party protest at Jantar Mantar on Sunday

New Delhi: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), which spearheaded the 2020-21 protest against the now-revoked central farm laws, extended its support to the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led sit-in protest against allegations of exam irregularities and announced that its delegation will join the agitation at Jantar Mantar here on Sunday.

In a letter addressed to CJP president Abhijit Dipke on Sunday, SKM said it stood in “wholehearted solidarity” with the peaceful democratic protest and the students, youth and their families participating in it.

The farmer community said its delegation will visit the protest site at 11 am on Sunday in support of protesting students and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is on an indefinite hunger strike along with several students, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

SKM also expressed its “deepest condolences” to students and families affected by what the Modi government described as “chronic paper leaks and mismanagement of exams”.

“Every student has the right to a transparent, fair and reliable education and examination system. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure accountability in this regard,” the letter said. It was said.
The farming community said its National Council had passed a resolution on June 17 supporting the student movement demanding Pradhan’s resignation and opposing what it called the “culture of fraud” in the education sector under the BJP-led NDA government. He also stated that he condemned the ban previously imposed on CJP’s social media accounts.

“Students and youth are also the children of farmers and the future of India. Samyukta Kisan Morcha firmly believes that the struggle of students and youth is the struggle of farmers,” the letter said. He added that it is the moral responsibility of farmers and democratic organizations to stand with young people fighting for their education, future and justice.

SKM said it hoped its delegation’s visit on Sunday would strengthen the democratic movement and push the government to engage in meaningful dialogue and “take the necessary steps, starting with the resignation of the Minister of Education.”

In a press release, SKM also called on students, youth, farmers, workers and ordinary citizens to join the protest at Jantar Mantar and support the government’s demand for accountability.

SKM, a conglomerate of over three dozen farming communities mostly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, had led the sit-in protest against three central farm laws on Delhi borders in 2020-2021. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the repeal of three controversial farm laws in November 2021 after a year of protests.
