Two men and a woman were jailed for the robbery, in which they stole £15, a Nokia phone and a gold e-cigarette. Sadie Metcalfe, 32, Luke Clayton, 45, and Lloyd Fitzgerald, 29, were sentenced at York Crown Court on July 3. They were sentenced to 42 months, 38 months and 38 months in prison respectively.
The court heard how the victim of the robbery lived at the house in Seamer Road and knew Metcalfe socially. Clayton and Fitzgerald, who called himself “M”, came out of the kitchen and threatened the victim. The victim was attacked with objects including a gold vodka bottle and a mirror, resulting in a broken tooth.
The victim was then forced to hand over his personal belongings, including a gold e-cigarette, Nokia mobile phone and £15 in cash. The criminals continued to search for his person even though they handed over his belongings.
Yorkshire Police immediately launched an investigation after the victim left the address and headed towards Scarborough Police Station. The victim directly named Metcalfe and Clayton and gave a detailed description of the third suspect; This suspect was later identified as Fitzgerald during video identification.
During the investigation, police seized a gold vodka bottle and two mirrors believed to have been used during the robbery. The stolen gold vaping device and £15 in cash were seized from Clayton at the time of his arrest and were later confirmed as his by the victim.
All three defendants were jointly charged with robbery and pleaded guilty at their first hearing at York Crown Court on 11 May 2026.

The victim read his personal statement in court, stating that his trust in other people had been shaken as a result of the robbery. He said: “Before this crime, I was an independent and trustworthy person, especially those I considered friends. I went to that venue thinking I would meet people I knew, but instead I was robbed. Being lured there by people I trusted had a significant impact on me.
“This incident left me vulnerable, isolated and unable to live the life I had before. Its effects still linger and I fear may continue for a long time.”

Detective Constable Sam Rivers, investigating officer from North Yorkshire Police’s Scarborough and Ryedale CID, said: “This was a horrific ordeal for the victim, who was left with multiple injuries including the loss of a tooth.
“These three men thought they could scare and attack someone in exchange for a mobile phone, e-cigarette and £15 cash.
“This type of violence and intimidation is completely unacceptable. No one should be subjected to such ordeal and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure the perpetrators are caught, prosecuted and held accountable.”
“I am pleased with the sentences handed down in court and that all three are behind bars where they can no longer pose a risk to the public.”
