Jan Suraaj Party fields Prashant Kishor for Bankipore Assembly byelection

Amid ongoing speculations, Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) on Sunday, July 5, 2026, announced that the core committee has unanimously decided to nominate Prashant Kishor for the upcoming by-election in Bankipore Assembly constituency.

Party’s State President Manoj Bharti confirmed the development at a press conference in Patna. The seat fell vacant after Nitin Nabin was elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Earlier, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that the by-election notification will be published on July 6 and nominations will be submitted by July 13. Voting will take place on July 30 and vote counting will take place on August 3.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders expressed confidence that the party will retain the seat it has held continuously since the 1990s.
