Four persons held for stealing copper wires at railway yard

Four people were arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Arakkonam railway station in Ranipet on Sunday for stealing copper wire from the railway yard.
Police said the arrested persons were identified as G. Ajith (26), V. Murugan (22), R. Vishwanathan (21) and K. Rathinasamy (47).
Initial investigation revealed that railway authorities had found that copper cables in signaling systems along the line between Arakkonam and Tiruttani and Arakkonam and Katpadi were missing for the last few weeks. It was reported that trains were delaying their movement on the route.
Railway police formed special teams to catch the suspects. During a routine inspection on the Arakkonam – Tiruttani route, the railway police team caught the trio, who told the police that they were involved in copper wire theft.
They also told the police that they sold the stolen copper wires to scrap dealer Rathinasamy in Tiruttani. A case was registered. The arrested persons were lodged in the Central Jail in Vellore. An investigation is ongoing.
