The momentum is in full swing for Team USA after beating Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32.
What was initially a bittersweet ending for San Francisco Bay Area forward Folarin Balogun to receive a red card changed when FIFA announced the USMNT star could play in Monday night’s Round of 16 against Belgium.
Balogun’s controversial red card in the 64th minute of a 2-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina changed the course of the USMNT’s hopes of making the World Cup Final. After all, Balogun has been an excellent striker for this team since the start of the tournament, scoring his third World Cup goal in the Round of 32.

However, in a surprising change after the uproar over his red card, Balogun will now be able to play for the USA.
The Athletic, which first reported Balogun’s playing status on Sunday, noted that part of FIFA’s disciplinary rules state that “the judicial body may decide to suspend the implementation of disciplinary action in whole or in part.”
The rule states, “If the person benefiting from a postponed sanction commits another violation of similar nature and severity during the trial period, the restraining order is lifted by the judicial body and the sanction is imposed, without prejudice to the additional sanction applied for the new violation.”
FOX Sports He also confirmed that Balogun can play. The report stated that the play should not have been pointed out to first referee Raphael Claus, who gave Balogun a red card following a VAR review.
In contrast, head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be able to field his normal starting XI rather than having to decide what to do about Balogun.

Belgium, on the other hand, were 10 minutes plus stoppage time away from a shocker against Senegal in the Round of 32. Senegal took a 2-0 lead towards the end of the second half, but Belgium managed to go to extra time with critical goals from Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans.

In extra time, just before a penalty shootout looked like the only way to break the deadlock, Senegal committed a foul in their own half and Tielemans was awarded a penalty to decide the match. The master player did not miss this opportunity and Belgium kept the World Cup alive.
Now these two teams will face off in Seattle, an electric atmosphere for the USMNT’s group stage victory over Australia. The match is expected to get even louder as the USA aims to do what only one team in its history has done: advance to the quarterfinals.
