John Dewar’s very public humiliation

Witnessing John Dewar’s public humiliation was unbearable.

The former vice-chancellor of La Trobe University and president of Universities Australia stumbled and managed to find his way through the barrage of questions and evidence presented to him over a day and a half at the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

Her opponent was Emma Bathurst, a truly impressive and devastatingly assistant clinical consultant. It led Dewar down a disastrous path; Slowly, coldly – almost brutally – confessions are forced, explanations are attempted, and “I don’t remember” and “That’s not what I remember” are muttered.
