Wimbledon 2026 results: Arthur Fery stuns Grigor Dimitrov to reach quarter-finals

At the end of it all, Fery stood on Center Court with his hands on his hips and shook his head in disbelief as the crowd rose to its feet.

Watching from the Royal Box, Swiss great Roger Federer was among the thousands who soaked up every bit of a stunning finish on Wimbledon’s center stage.

Such theater seemed unlikely when Dimitrov took the lead twice in the fourth set, turning the match in his favor after Fery’s brilliant opening set.

But Fery, as he had done all week, refused to be sidelined and leapt into the air in celebration after forcing a decision.

“That was the story of the tournament for me, in the last round and again today I came really close to losing,” Fery said.

“We had a breakdown in the fourth round, we just tried to keep fighting, had a good attitude and it worked.

“I played really well with my back to the wall and it paid off today.”

Former world number three Dimitrov, aiming to reach the quarter-finals 12 months ago after his previous bid ended in tears at this very stage, retired with an injury while trailing champion Jannik Sinner by two sets.

But even as tensions and expectations increased, Fery never shied away and became the sixth British player in the Open era to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon men’s singles.

Fery, who has never advanced past the second round of a major before, will now face Italian ninth seed Flavio Cobolli in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
