Taylor Swift’s wedding secrets revealed by Greg James as he says he watched the ceremony with Hugh Grant and had clandestine ‘Traitors-style’ talks with Graham Norton

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding secrets were revealed by guest Greg James, who said he “probably had the best night ever.”

The BBC Radio 1 DJ was among 1,000 guests invited to their epic Madison Square Garden wedding on Friday night, and on Wednesday he returned to the Breakfast Show to finally explain it all in a Q&A with his team and the Swifties in attendance.

Greg admitted that he had been lying to friends, family and fans for months, revealing that he received the wedding invitation in mid-March and only told his wife Bella Mackie, who was also invited.

The only person Greg could discuss the big day with was fellow guest Graham Norton.

The chat show host and Greg coincidentally landed on the same episode of This Morning shortly after receiving their invitations, and were chatting in whispers in the dressing room.

Greg later revealed that he and his wife Bella and Graham’s husband Jono McLeod had arranged to have dinner together, laughing: ‘We agreed to keep a secret under the cover of the dark dinner. ‘It was like a meeting of traitors in the tower.’

‘We were going to go to a restaurant and he texted to say it might not be a restaurant, so we had a secret dinner at his house to talk about it.’ We ate this meal and said “What the hell, where is this wedding?” we said.

At the wedding, Greg revealed he was hanging out with other British guests, stating: ‘Brits tend to gravitate towards each other in a situation like this and at one point it was me, Bella, Hugh Grant and his wife and we were watching the proceedings.

He added that he was amazed by the number of guests invited ‘every 10 seconds’ and noted: ‘It was a room full of the most famous people in the world.’

‘I couldn’t believe it. ‘It was like going to Madame Tussauds but the wax was animated and you could interact with the wax and it would talk back to you, it was absolutely crazy… I had a few pees next to some NFL players.’

Greg also insisted there was no shortage of champagne, saying:TThe food was plentiful and delicious, with lots of everything.’

‘You know how sometimes the first drink at a wedding is given free? That was the first 10,000 drinks.’

Greg also explained that, contrary to rumors about watermarked invitations, all of his communication regarding the wedding was electronic.

Taylor invited the Radio 1 DJ to appear live in October and revealed she received her official invitation in mid-March.

Greg revealed he was hanging out with British guests, noting: 'Brits tend to turn to each other in a situation like this, and at one point it was me, Hugh Grant and his wife.'

‘I’ve been lying to you all this time,’ he apologized. ‘The invitation came to my phone in the form of a link in the middle of the night, in Weymouth, during a thunderstorm, while I was trying to get some sleep when I was feeling really sick to my stomach.’

Greg revealed he stayed in a hotel in Weymouth on March 12, the night before he started the Comic Relief bike race.

“I was going to the toilet, I turned on my phone and there was a link saying ‘you’re invited to the wedding,'” he said.

‘It was the night before the Comic Relief competition and I had to deal with it all week. I hung up my phone and had to say, ‘I can’t deal with this right now, I’m about to cycle 1000km on a tandem.’

Greg said the only person he told about the invitation that week was his wife, who calmly said “you can’t focus on that right now, we’ll deal with it in July.”

‘So it was during a hell of a storm and a hell of a storm in my stomach… That’s the not-so-glamorous place where I picked it up… All I wanted to do was scream and tell everyone but you don’t want to be that guy who ruins everything.’

After telling BBC bosses he was taking annual leave, he also told a white lie to the organizers of the Crosswires podcast festival he attended on Thursday night.

‘I couldn’t explain to the people at the festival why I couldn’t make it through the rest of the weekend. “Something came up,” I said. I think they assumed it had something to do with my dad not being very well and that felt bad too! ‘I can’t use that as an excuse!’

Greg and his wife Bella met fellow guest Graham Norton before the wedding and arranged for a secret dinner.

Greg admitted that the lack of an invitation on paper made him suspect he was part of the Radio 1 hoax, and admitted: ‘To be honest it was a big part until we got there… Bella and I were like ‘this might be a scam’, until we got in we were like ‘we might have been on a big ride here for nothing’.’

The Radio 1 star received the invitation months after Taylor, who he has interviewed many times over the years, told him live on air that she would be there.

After Greg joked that he wanted to meet his NFL star boyfriend Travis, Taylor laughed that she’d get the chance to attend the wedding and told him she was “obviously” invited.

On Instagram Stories on Saturday, Greg revealed that he was indeed at the star-studded celebration after fans wondered if he had made it to the guest list.

After skipping Friday’s Radio 1 show, Greg insisted to listeners that he was busy in Sheffield recording his Bad Chat podcast live at the Crossed Wires festival. In fact, he had jumped on a plane across the Atlantic to make it to Taylor’s evening wedding.

The next morning, he shared a photo of a slice of pizza and joked: ‘I’m having the world’s worst hangover at the moment and I can’t respond to the amount of funny messages I’ve received in the last 24 hours.

‘But to say this: I was true to his word, of course the invitation came and I couldn’t tell anyone about it. And oh my God, what an incredibly gorgeous night. ‘I’m going to take a nap.’
