Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner repeatedly criticized a lawmaker on Reddit for cheating on his wife, years before his campaign confirmed he sent suggestive messages to women early in his marriage.
Platner claimed that while he was working as a bartender in D.C. four times between 2018 and 2019, former GOP Rep. Duncan Hunter admitted to him that he was sleeping with women who were not his wives. Platner therefore called Hunter a “real scumbag” and a “trash person.”
But his campaign confirmed that Platner sent sexually explicit messages to women who were not his wives early in his marriage. The Senate candidate also had an account on the Kik messaging app; Her profile picture was a topless photo with nothing but a towel on.

The suggestive messages were first revealed by Platner’s former political director, Genevieve McDonald, who said Platner’s wife told her he had exchanged sexual messages with up to 12 women. But the Platner campaign said he only communicated with about six women and that their conversations were not ongoing.
Platner’s wife said in a statement: “I told extremely personal details about my marriage to someone I considered a friend. In the months since, I have had to watch him spread malicious rumors to everyone who answered his phone.” he said. “I entrusted this person with the most private part of our lives – the early days of our marriage, before any campaign was on our minds – and I was deeply hurt by his betrayal and invasion of our privacy.”

Platner, who married his wife in 2019 in 2023, used harsh language when describing Hunter’s alleged extramarital behavior.
“A real piece of shit,” Platner wrote of Hunter in a December 2019 post. “He used to come to a D.C. bar where I worked, get drunk, and brag about girls he killed who weren’t his wives. I have a pretty flexible moral compass when it comes to this sort of thing, but he was just the epitome of a frat boy idiot.”

In another post, Platner called Hunter a “slut” who “likes to brag about all the women who aren’t his wives.”
He also criticized Hunter for excessive drinking, a problem he claimed one of Platner’s ex-girlfriends also faced.
Hunter was indicted in 2018 on charges that he converted more than $250,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses and falsified campaign finance records. Prosecutors later alleged that some of Hunter’s campaign spending was tied to extramarital affairs. He pleaded guilty in 2020 and was sentenced to 11 months in prison, but avoided serving time after President Donald Trump pardoned him that same year.

Platner, who has since been accused of rape by a different ex-girlfriend, an allegation he denies, is facing calls to drop out of the Maine Senate race as leading Democrats rescinded their support for him. Democrats have until July 13 to replace him with another candidate; Platner reportedly used this situation as leverage to determine his successor.
The Platner campaign did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital on Wednesday.
