At the last election, Britons agreed on one thing. We wanted the conservatives to come out. Barely one in four adults voted for Keir Starmer, and many quickly regretted it. Today, voters are flying to extremes as Labor, Conservative Party, Greens, Nigel Farage’s Reform and Restoration parties scrap their votes. Only Count Binface speaks for Britain these days. We are torn by civil wars and 10 years on we are still fighting the Brexit wars. England’s World Cup heroics should unite us. Instead we are constantly told to be ashamed of our own flag.

Generations are also divided, as young people struggle to find homes and the state’s pension triple lock becomes a battleground. While a labor surge is being created through wage increases in the public sector, it is taxing the private sector to death. As the boats continue to arrive, immigration dominates politics. Diversity is supposed to make us stronger. Instead, it has become another source of division.

Now we have Andy Burnham. Although only 24,000 people voted for him in Makerfield, the Prime Minister-in-waiting is enjoying a popularity boost. While he threatens to swing leftward, the rest of us have no say. The so-called King of the North is very unpopular outside his own region, and that will collapse once he starts raising taxes on southerners’ homes. But Burnham really brings Britain together in a spectacular way. Not in the way he expected.

Burnham is refusing to name her cabinet until she moves Keir Starmer out of 10th place. This risks being the most unprepared administration in history; Quite an achievement, considering Starmer’s know-it-all.

Across the political divide, Britain cries out with one voice: “For God’s sake, don’t make Ed Miliband Chancellor!” This rare moment of national reconciliation brings tears to my eyes. In times of extreme danger, Britain can still speak with one voice.

Business leaders and unions are aligned on this issue, fearing that Miliband will negatively impact employment, growth and economic stability. Red Ed even brought Scots and English together. They hate him north of the border for impoverishing Aberdeen with his ideological attack on North Sea oil and gas. They are so angry they will even vote Conservative just to punish Labour. On the other hand, bond markets are also recovering for this purpose. It’s so nice to see.

Even Labor Party members are joining in the fuss. In a new YouGov poll, just 21% say they want Miliband as Chancellor. This puts her just one point ahead of Rachel Reeves at 20%, which is surprising considering the chaos she creates. Many Labor MPs shudder at the thought of Chancellor Ed Miliband. They’ve sat with him at the Cabinet table and they know exactly what he’s like.

So yay for Britain. We have finally found something that can bring us together as a people. Even Harry Kane’s hat-trick against Norway on Saturday couldn’t do it. And this is a big opportunity for Andy Burnham. It can restore national harmony by giving us what we all want. Everyone except Ed Miliband.
