Unearthed medieval ring goes on display at museum
A medieval gold ring discovered by a metal detector was exhibited in a museum.
The 14th-century gold finger ring was unearthed from an undisclosed location in Bourton and Draycote, Warwickshire, in October 2023 and is now on display at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum.
Rugby City Council said the treasure contained a dark red cabochon stone in an oval frame, with an opening decorated with carved circles and recesses on the ring’s shoulders.

Maggie O’Rourke, councilor for partnerships, health and wellbeing, said the authority was “delighted” to acquire a piece of Rugby history and share it with museum visitors.
The ring was registered by the British Museum’s Portable Antiques Scheme (PAS) and was declared a “treasure” due to its age and precious metal content, the official said.
Councilor Neil Sandison described it as a “wonderful discovery” and added that it was buried “long before” the original St Andrew’s Church was built in Rugby town centre.
