Trouble on the streets of London and Paris after France knock Morocco out of the World Cup

Football fans flocked to parts of Paris and London after Morocco lost to France in the World Cup.

In Thursday’s match, the North African country was eliminated by France, whose team conceded two goals, in the international tournament held at Boston Stadium.

Immediately after the match ended at 23:00 UK time, crowds filled the streets of the British and French capitals.

Scenes in London turned violent. A video filmed on Edgware Road in west London showed at least four people, believed to be police officers, lying on the ground in pain.

Large crowds of people watched in horror as many police officers were seen attending to people who were apparently injured.

The man who shot the video was heard saying: ‘They need to get in the ambulance now.’

Riot police were seen in many videos. A clip filmed outside Lebanese restaurant Al Balad, around the corner from Marble Arch station, showed dozens of police with shields and helmets marching towards Edgware Road.

A man filming the incident was heard saying: ‘The police are coming in.’

Several large police vans were seen with blue lights flashing.

Further down the road, where Edgware Road meets Upper Berkeley Street, a large crowd had gathered in front of the riot police.

They were heard repeatedly shouting the word ‘f*****’ at the police, who quickly charged at them to disperse the crowd.

Dozens of people were seen wearing red Moroccan jerseys.

In another clip taken from the same location, smoke was seen coming out of what appeared to be flares.

A police van was seen parked at the intersection, with drivers honking their horns angrily.

The man who shot the video was heard saying in reaction to the scenes of violence: ‘Oh my God.’

The scenes in Paris were more joyful but no less chaotic. A video shot at the Westfield Forum des Halles, around the corner from the Louvre, showed countless young people jumping up and down with joy following France’s victory.

They were heard chanting loud slogans and whistling.

The crowd could be heard singing together.

Last week, a large crowd of Moroccan football fans celebrating their World Cup victory over the Netherlands clashed with Dutch police.

Morocco narrowly won their last 32 games in Mexico, taking victory from the Netherlands in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw with their rivals.

After the match, Moroccan fans raided many cities in the Netherlands and led to the arrest of many people.

While celebrations in The Hague initially started peacefully with people dancing and waving flags in the streets, they soon cooled off.

Hundreds of fans gathered at an intersection in the area and celebrated wildly, throwing balls into the air and jumping on the passengers of passing vehicles, and sometimes on cars.

The atmosphere changed when the riot police arrived at the scene about an hour before the festival.

Dutch police said officers were targeted with fireworks and stones, so they began using water cannon to disperse a large group gathered on Vaillantlaan, one of the main roads in the city’s Schilderswijk district.

The police pinned many young people to the ground after hitting their legs with batons. They were handcuffed and put into police vans.

Dutch police on bicycles played a cat-and-mouse game with young people on the streets, but no major damage occurred.

Despite many attempts, people refused to talk to the media and preferred to keep their identities secret. Many people on the streets were wearing ski masks or other face coverings.

Nearly 10 people were detained in the city.

In Rotterdam, four more people were arrested on charges of breach of peace and assault after Moroccan fans gathered in the West Kruiskade area in the early hours of the morning.

Local media reported that pots were thrown at police officers, although the incident was unrelated to the arrests.

The Daily Mail has contacted the Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service for comment.
