Srinivas Achanta charged with murder after wife Lavanya Achanta’s death in Melbourne

A man who was hospitalized under police guard was charged with murdering his wife.
Srinivas Achanta, 39, appeared briefly in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday, three days after his wife was found dead at a home in a leafy Vermont suburb in Melbourne’s east.
Police allege that Mr Achanta fatally stabbed 39-year-old Lavanya Achanta on the evening of July 7. Emergency services were called to the Delatite Court property at around 10pm.
Police said two children were also found unharmed on the property.

Mr Achanta was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital before being interviewed by police on Thursday.
Surrounded by security in court, he did not need to speak as police called his lawyers 12 weeks to prepare and present a case.
Mr Achanta was remanded in custody to return to court on 13 November.
The court was told that his lawyer, Alex Wolf, had submitted written submissions on matters relating to custody management, but these were not published at the open hearing.

The couple moved to the area with their children about two years ago and were largely on their own, according to neighbors.
On Wednesday, coroners were seen inspecting the home, located on a quiet cul-de-sac.
