‘Devastating’ evidence against Charlie Kirk murder suspect laid out in court
According to the messages he shared with his roommate, the suspect wasn’t even sure what model of gun he was using.
“I don’t know exactly what the gun was because it was old… and Gramps had made some modifications,” he wrote.
Twiggs testified that Robinson asked to use the engraving tool weeks ago before a hunting and camping trip with his family.
But after the shooting, he texted Twiggs: “Remember how I scraped bullets?”
He said the messages were “mostly a big meme.”
The court heard this week that a man found both at the scene and at Robinson’s home had a sign reading “Hey Fascist! Get him!” He saw pictures of inscribed bullets and cartridges with messages such as.
Robinson eventually gave up trying to retrieve the rifle, texted Twiggs and returned to their home in St George.
Authorities discovered the firearm, law enforcement testified this week, and found DNA matching Robinson on both the rifle and the wrapped towel.
Twiggs said in the recorded interview that Robinson appeared tense and remorseful in the apartment he shared with his roommate the day after the attack.
“He started crying a little bit and wishing he hadn’t done that and then he just kept walking around and doing something, I guess it was just to keep himself busy or distracted or something,” Twiggs said.
There were lengthy discussions at the hearing about the admissibility of the evidence; Media lawyers and Kirk representatives argued passionately for the whole thing to be displayed publicly, or at least in the courtroom.
Twiggs said Robinson told his roommate the day after the murder that he planned to turn himself in.
The court heard how the suspect arrived at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with his parents and a family friend the day after the shooting.
Prosecutors played silent footage of him that night wearing a burgundy shirt, dark hat, jeans and Converse shoes, and he was transported back to Utah County and formally booked on Sept. 12.
Robinson appeared in court this week clean-shaven and wearing a light-coloured suit. His parents and two brothers were also there.
The US president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., and his wife were also in court.
Both sides are now required to submit lengthy written briefs, and Judge Graf has set the next hearing date for September 1.
The Kirk family made a statement shortly after the court adjournment.
The family wrote: “Nothing can undo the loss of our beloved Charlie.
“As this case moves to the next phase, we pray that the truth will continue to be heard through a fair, transparent and fact-based process.”
