Shooting near street festival in Canada kills two

Two people were killed and three others were injured in a shooting near a street festival in Toronto, Canada; police warned that the attacker was active and later said the scene was secured.
Six people suffered gunshot wounds following a shooting near St Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue, where the Salsa on St Clair festival is held, Toronto police said.
Authorities initially urged the public to stay away from the area while they intervened.
Police later said the scene was secured but warned that the suspect or suspects had not been captured.
A large police presence remains in the area near Toronto’s Salsa, a Latin-themed cultural celebration.
“I am devastated by the senseless violence at the St. Clair Festival Salsa that left two people dead and others injured,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said in a social media post.
“My thoughts are with the victims, their families and everyone affected.
Canada’s largest city, Toronto, is among the safest major cities in North America. Fatal shootings, especially those involving multiple victims in a public setting, are relatively rare.
