A quiet evening walk in Yellowstone National Park turned into a desperate fight for survival after a charging bull bison attacked a tourist and threw him six feet into the air.
The sad incident occurred on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Bridge Bay Campground in Wyoming. The unnamed victim was walking down the road with her young grandchild when the huge, angry herbivore suddenly pounced on them.
The dramatic encounter was captured on camera by Mike MacLeod, a former Army combat photographer who was staying at the campsite.
According to MacLeod, the bison entered the campsite looking “angry, agitated, and blaming everything.”
Before targeting the grandfather, the bull jumped on a group of young people taking photographs and violently attacked a passing white pickup truck.
unprovoked attack
Viewers noted that the grandfather and grandson initially maintained a safe distance, estimated to be about 100 feet apart, well beyond National Park Service guidelines.
When the creature became restless, the duo sought shelter and retreated behind a small cluster of pine trees.
Tragically, the shelter proved inadequate. The enraged animal pursued the couple violently, crashing into trees.

While the young grandson managed to escape unhurt, the grandfather was desperately trying to escape from the monster. The bison closed the gap, thrust its left horn into the man’s hip, and launched him into the air.
MacLeod described the victim making a “perfect spin” in the air before landing heavily on his side.
Bystanders rushed to help, shouting and shouting to drive the animal away. Emergency service teams arrived at the scene in a short time and provided first aid.
According to reports, the man’s hip was broken and he was taken to hospital in serious condition.

mating season
This unprovoked incident serves as a reminder that the annual bison mating season, known as the “rut” and lasting from July to September, has now begun.
During this period, bulls experience an increase in testosterone levels, making them extremely volatile and territorial.
When in doubt, don’t make eye contact, just move on, experts advise.
