Conwy wildfire at Sychnant Pass expected to spread in heatwave

36 houses were evacuated after it was announced that there was a major incident following the bushfire in North Wales.
The fire broke out near Mount Conwy and Sychnant Pass in the county of Conwy on Sunday.
Approximately 200 acres of land were affected, and one family who had to leave their home said the fire reached their home.
Anthony Jones, deputy chief fire officer of North Wales Fire and Rescue, told Radio 4’s Today program that they expected the fire to spread due to the heatwave.
Jones said residents living nearby should keep windows and doors closed.
He added that approximately 200 acres of land were affected by the approximately 1.6-kilometer fire front at the time of the incident.
Speaking to Radio Wales Breakfast, Llinos Evans of North Wales Fire and Rescue said it had evacuated 36 properties at Capelulo near the mountain as a precaution on Sunday.
He added that the service has eight fire appliances, four narrow access vehicles and two bushfire units at any given time.
Michelle Campbell, 44, her husband Ben, 46, and their three sons fled their Capelulo home after the fire reached their property.
“The sound was worse than anything. The crunching was so loud. You could hear it coming down the mountain,” Ben said.
He said he received a missed call at 4:30 a.m., but 30 minutes later a neighbor knocked on his door and said: “The mountain above your house is on fire.”
