Youri Tielemans: Man Utd close to completing deal for Aston Villa midfielder

Manchester United are in advanced talks to transfer Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans.
United have prioritized strengthening their midfield position this summer but have so far been disappointed by failing to sign first-choice Elliot Anderson, who joined Manchester City, and Mateus Fernandes, who opted for a move to Tottenham Hotspur from West Ham.
The Old Trafford team reached a £35 million deal with Serie A club Atalanta for Brazilian World Cup star Ederson, but this deal has been canceled for now.
It was learned that Chelsea’s Andrey Santos passed a medical check before his 48 million pound transfer and new transfers are expected.
United’s only experienced orthodox midfielder is Kobbie Mainoo, who is yet to feature in England’s World Cup campaign.
BBC Sport has been told Tielemans’ Villa contract includes a release clause facilitating negotiations and a deal is close.
The 29-year-old has been on United’s radar for a long time and has a wealth of Premier League experience. The club considers this to be a significant positive.
Tielemans was an important name in Belgium’s advancement to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, but he was injured during the warm-up and had to withdraw from the match, where they lost 2-1 to Spain.
