SIT reconstructs minor rape-murder crime scene in Baruipur

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has reconstructed the sequence of events linked to the rape and murder of a girl in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, and took the three arrested accused to the crime scene in Baruipur, a senior police officer said.
The forensic team accompanied the investigators and collected fresh samples from the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.

The reconstruction was carried out in the area near the railway line where the minor was allegedly sexually assaulted before she was killed, he said, adding that the three accused, Kabir Molla, Ananda Sardar and Dibakar Sardar, were brought to the scene and asked to recreate the sequence of events in the presence of two independent witnesses.
“A detailed reconstruction was carried out to corroborate the statements of the accused and corroborate the evidence collected so far. Forensic experts also examined the area and collected additional samples which will be sent for scientific analysis,” a senior police officer said. he said.
The reconstruction exercise on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, took place a week after one of the accused, Prabhas Mondal, was killed in an encounter when the police took him to the crime scene for reconstruction of the crime scene.

“Today’s reconstruction was carried out under elaborate security arrangements. The investigation is progressing on many fronts and all available scientific and forensic evidence is being examined,” he said.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited Baruipur on Saturday, July 11, 2026 and met the victim’s family. He had assured them that the investigation into the alleged rape and murder would be personally monitored and conducted in a referential manner.
The victim’s father expressed satisfaction with the progress of the investigation following the Prime Minister’s assurance.

Police said four separate cases have been registered in connection with the incident.
Apart from the rape and murder case, other FIRs relate to the death of Indrajit Mondal due to mob violence during protests, road blocking and vandalism along with attacks on police personnel and disruption of railway services and damage to railway properties.
