Atchannaidu said irrigation authorities need to be vigilant throughout the Kharif season to ensure that every drop of available water reaches farmers’ fields. He said regular inspections, identification of sensitive areas, preventive maintenance and timely repair of drains are essential to prevent such incidents.
The Minister warned that if negligence continues, strict measures will be taken. He instructed the authorities to regularly inspect main canals, distribution channels, tank weirs and other water storage structures and take preventive measures.
“The welfare of farmers is the top priority of this government. Negligence in irrigation management will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he said.
Warning the authorities against repeating such mistakes, Atchannaidu said that if similar incidents occur in the future, the ministry will initiate strict sanctions against those responsible.
