Deputy Speaker CP Radhakrishnan, while emphasizing the supremacy of democracy, public service and constitutional values, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, appealed to the elected representatives to overcome the political divide between the ruling and Opposition parties and work for the public good.
Mr. Radhakrishnan was addressing the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Rajasthan Assembly at a program titled ‘Amrit Mahotsav’ here. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Governor of Rajasthan Haribhau Bagade and Governor of Punjab Gulab Chand Kataria and many political leaders attended the day-long programme.

The Vice President said true insight born of experience comes not just from books but from those who have served with integrity and dedication in Parliament and State Assemblies. In his speech, Mr. Birla said that legislative assemblies are “schools of democracy” where MPs learn the values of dialogue, discipline, consensus and service. Highlighting the role and duties of legislators, he said that they must fulfill their obligations to the people as democracy is maintained not only by constitutional provisions but also by public trust, dialogue, dignity and the spirit of service.
Mr. Birla said legislatures serve as forums where governments can understand people’s aspirations, challenges, criticisms and issues faced through democratic debate. He said the Rajasthan Assembly instilled in him the legislative values that guided him in his later public life as a member.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Opposition Leader Tika Ram Jully also spoke at the programme, where a special discussion was held on the 23 historical laws passed by the State Assembly with an analysis of their social and administrative impacts.
