Massive Fire at Karur Garbage Dump, Burning for Last 5 Hours

Karur: A major fire broke out in the garbage dump belonging to Karur Municipality on Wednesday night.
It was reported that the fire broke out suddenly around 20:00 and that the fire spread rapidly through the mountain-like pile of waste and surrounded the area with dense smoke.
The flames have been burning for more than five hours, spreading through large piles of garbage and releasing intense heat and thick smoke into the surrounding area.
More than 20 personnel from Karur Fire and Rescue Services are fighting the fire with three fire trucks.
Solid waste collected from 48 wards of Karur City Municipal Corporation is routinely dumped at the municipal dump located near the Government Footwear Unit. More details are awaited.
