One Country, One Law For Everyone: CM Yadav

bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav justified the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) by saying that the law should be the same for everyone in a country.
Speaking at a government function in Indore, Yadav stated that the UCC is based on the principle of ‘One country, one law for all’ and said why the law should be discriminatory against our ‘Muslim sisters’ and that this discrimination can be eliminated by the implementation of the UCC.
While strongly advocating the implementation of the UCC, she said, “If (Lord) Ram had only one marriage, the same can be expected from Rahim. Our Muslim sisters are also our sisters. Why should they be discriminated against?”
Mr. Yadav said his government has initiated steps to implement UCC in the state.
A high-level committee headed by retired high court judge Ranjana Prasad Desai was formed in April this year to prepare the draft UCC bill for the state after consulting stakeholders.
The committee recently submitted the draft UCC bill with its recommendations after receiving suggestions from ten lakh people across 55 districts in the state.
Sources said that many Muslims participated in the exercise.
Mr. Yadav said his government has decided to table the UCC bill in the five-day monsoon session of the Assembly, scheduled to begin on July 20.
The proposed bill will be discussed in the Parliament before becoming law.
The committee was asked to prepare the draft UCC bill keeping in mind the socio-economic situation of Madhya Pradesh.
The committee recommended excluding tribes from the purview of the proposed UCC bill, sources said.
