Railways contributed immensely to nation’s overall development: Gehlot

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot said that Railways not only strengthens the Indian economy but also contributes to the overall development of the country.

He was inaugurating a program to celebrate the inauguration of the renovated Alnavar station developed under the Amrit Bharat Station Program in Dharwad district on Friday. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had virtually inaugurated the station.

“Railways is focusing on providing world-class passenger services, accelerating railway electrification and modernizing train operations,” Mr. Gehlot said.

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Prahlad Joshi said the station is now equipped with elevators, flyovers and disabled facilities, along with various modern amenities.

The minister said that apart from the redevelopment of stations, the Railways has also started development of railway over and under bridges.

Mr Joshi said the country is now first in the world in terms of railway line expansion, with railway electrification across the network having been completed.

Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, MLC Pradeep Shettar, Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Snehal R., South Western Railway General Manager Ananth P., senior railway officials and others were present.

Alnavar station has been extensively redeveloped at a cost of ₹17.2 crore and many new amenities and facilities have been added. The station building, first built during the British period, was expanded with a facade that reflects the artistic and cultural heritage of the region.
