Someone needs to step in and defend Cody Rhodes’ awful, terrible placekicking performance

Fanatics Fest is held in New York this weekend and brings together the biggest names in sports, entertainment and sports-entertainment under one roof.
Fanatics Fest is to sports enthusiasts what Comic-Con is to nerds.
But amidst all this fun, WWE superstar Cody Rhodes must be a little toasty after video of him attempting a shot went viral.
And no, it wasn’t because it separated the poles from 50 metres.
Okay, so it wasn’t spectacular, but not everyone is cut out for ground kicking.
I also feel like he had no idea he was going to try to draw the pigskins until he walked past the booth and was pressured by his peers.

So I think anyone making fun of American Nightmare needs to take a good look in the mirror, because I guarantee most of us can’t do any better.

For reasons I can’t understand, ground kicking seems to be something most people in the sport think they can get out there and do.
Are you going to send a ball into the stands on the opposite field at 99 miles per hour? Probably not.
Stop Alexander Ovechkin’s one-timer from the right circle? No.

Shooting from 25 meters away? Not only do they think they can do it, but a lot of people say, “Brother, I’ll do it from 45 onwards.”
But you won’t. That’s really hard to do, as evidenced by the fact that a pretty solid athlete in Cody Rhodes looked like he’d just learned what football was that morning.

If you hadn’t kicked a little kick in high school, I think we’d all have walked out of that Fanatics Fest fan activation saying, “Thank God I’m not the best pro wrestler on the roster, so I can go through the day without anyone paying attention to me making an ass of myself… Hey, I think there’s a Shake Shack booth there. Cool!”

If you’ve never tried it, you’d be praying to look as good as Cody Rhodes. Most of us are more like Charlie Brown being bathed for the thousandth time by Lucy.

So the next time someone’s attempt at a Ray Finkle impression goes wrong, remember that you might want to turn a blind eye.
Especially if the person in question has the Cross Rhodes in their repertoire.
