World Cup 2026: Is England’s third-place finish being under-appreciated?

England need to find the management and mentality that will take them somewhere they haven’t been since 1966.

Tuchel has built a team with a lot of physicality in his Premier League image and is built around two of his world-class players, Bellingham and Kane.

But there is no clear idea or model yet on how they can quickly re-form and actually win a tournament ahead of Euro 2028.

And of course they will face France and Spain in that Euro.

Tuchel needs to find a way to make England stronger and more resilient, less one-dimensional, and he can draft in the bright emerging talents of Liverpool’s 17-year-old striker Rio Ngumoah and Arsenal’s Max Dowman, just 16.

The head coach appeared to lift the handbrake against France on Saturday (admittedly in a game with little pressure) and his revamped side proved they can dazzle offensively with a six-goal performance.

However, there are still clouds over how England will solve this puzzle after another failure, and the pressure is on Tuchel to find the answers.
