Matt Damon reveals bizarre way The Odyssey director Christopher Nolan gets in touch since he has no smartphone
Odyssey director Christopher Nolan doesn’t have a cell phone, and now co-star Matt Damon has revealed how he got in touch with him.
Years ago, 55-year-old filmmaker Nolan explained that he worked without a mobile phone and did not communicate via text or email.
Damon, who recently revealed that the director applied ‘waterboarding’ to him, recalled how he learned that he would portray Odysseus in the movie.
A-list star revealed People Nolan’s wife and Oscar-winning producer Emma Thomas texted me, “Are you around for a phone call today?” Because it is known that Chris does not have a phone.’
Damon said Thomas, 54, was the one who “always let you know if he was going to call.”
‘Then you get a call from a regular number because it answers a line at Universal Studios.’

The A-list star revealed to People that before Nolan called him and offered him the role of Odysseus, Nolan’s wife and Oscar-winning producer Emma Thomas texted him to see if he could take a phone call.

Nolan and Thomas met at University College London when they were 19, as he has worked as a producer on all of their films since 1997. They have four children together.
The actor said that even Nolan didn’t know which phone number to call from.
Describing the call, Damon said: ‘He rang and we chatted for 10-15 minutes.
‘It had only been six months since Oppenheimer had gone through the Oscars and stuff.’
Damon has previously spoken about the challenges he faced on set while filming the epic at the helm.
In this highly anticipated epic, Damon portrays the titular Odysseus, the titular hero from Greek and Roman mythology, as he faces a perilous journey to Ithaca, meeting creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the fairy Calypso along the way.
Damon recently opened up about the intense final days of filming. People He said: ‘We were laughing at the end because we were doing a close up of some raft work which is very dangerous to do offshore.
‘So we had shot it a little bit wide, but we did some stuff in the tank that involved Chris pouring water on my face while I was lying there and I was like, ‘This is perfect.’ ‘We’re finishing this with water skiing,’ I said.’

In the highly anticipated epic, Damon plays Odysseus, who faces a perilous journey to Ithaca and meets creatures like Polyphemus, the Sirens, and Calypso along the way.
Damon (pictured with Zendaya in the film) said: ‘We did some stuff in the tank which involved Chris pouring water on my face while I was lying there and I was like, ‘This is perfect. “We finish this with water boarding,” I said.
As if that wasn’t enough to deal with already, Damon joked about having to deal with some of his ‘phobias’, including being stuck inside a giant Trojan horse.
Damon said: ‘I definitely worked on a lot of them this time.
‘Claustrophobia was one of them, but I hope I’m on the other side of it now.’
Odyssey features an incredible star-studded cast including Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Tom Holland, Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo. In theaters now.
