Russia has launched its largest and most brutal ballistic missile attack since the start of the Ukrainian war, raining down absolute hellfire on the capital Kiev. In a terrifying attack that began in the dead of night and lasted several hours, Vladimir Putin’s forces launched 41 missiles and 125 kamikaze drones in a desperate attempt to crush Ukrainian resistance.
The catastrophic bombardment killed at least six people and maimed dozens more in Kiev, while apocalyptic fires ravaged five separate parts of the city. Desperate rescue teams were filmed pulling bloody survivors from the rubble of burning residential blocks and collapsed houses. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, rescue teams frantically pulled out four civilians trapped in a private house surrounded by a fireball. Meanwhile, residents trapped in the Shevchenkivskyi district had to be rescued from the upper floors of a burning three-storey building.
While the fires also affected the Solomyanskyi, Desnianskyi and Dnipro regions, a body was pulled from the charred remains of a non-residential building. Miraculously, some survived the initial explosions. A terrified resident in western Kiev described the moment the shockwave ripped apart his house and his own balcony door hit his head.
Refusing to leave his vulnerable family, he said: “My grandmother lives with me and she can’t walk. How can I run away and leave her behind?”
While the barrage was in progress, the Kremlin released a statement claiming that the strikes targeted military facilities, including factories producing Flamingo drones and Neptune guided missiles. Moscow also claimed that a targeted postal terminal was used for storage of “dual-use goods” and assembly of military robots.
However, Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi shot down the excuse, stating that the attack was nothing more than “a terrible reminder that Russia’s strategy boils down to terrorism against civilians.”
This brutal surge comes as Ukraine faces a catastrophic shortage of US-made Patriot air defense missiles, the only weapon capable of blasting Putin’s deadly ballistic missiles out of the sky.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy made a frantic appeal to his Western allies as the capital burned, warning that any hesitation would play directly into the Kremlin’s hands. He announced that Russia sent 1,450 attack planes, 1,640 guided bombs and 99 missiles to his country in just one week.
