Woman Booked For Duping Belthangady Businessman Of Rs 87.22 Lakh

Mangaluru: Police registered a case of cheating after a businessman from Belthangady complained that a woman he met through a matrimonial app had cheated him of Rs 87.22 lakh.
Allegedly, the businessman contacted a 35-year-old woman through a marriage application in May 2024. The two allegedly continued their conversation over the phone, where he gained the woman’s trust.
Police alleged that between September 26, 2024 and January 20, 2025, the woman persuaded the complainant under various excuses to transfer money to different bank accounts. Believing his claims, he transferred a total of Rs 87,22,710 in multiple transactions.
The complainant later realized that he had been deceived when the alleged woman could not be reached and did not return the money.
Based on his complaint, Belthangady Police registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
