Russian warship carries out live-firing exercise off UK coast

A Russian warship conducted a live-fire gunnery exercise off the coast of Plymouth on Monday, the Ministry of Defense said.

During the operation, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, the Russian frigate Neustrashimy was shadowed by the Royal Navy ship and the French military aircraft.

The warship is understood to have notified the Royal Navy offshore patrol ship HMS Tyne of its intentions in advance, the BBC reported.

A Ministry of Defense spokesman said: “A Russian naval ship in the shadow of the Royal Navy conducted a live-fire weapons exercise in international waters approximately 40 nautical miles south of Plymouth yesterday.

“The Royal Navy monitored this exercise from start to finish, continues to monitor the ship’s activities closely and stands ready to protect the national security of the United Kingdom.”
