Japanese company unveils futuristic cooling box that blasts cold air at users in bizarre way to beat the heat
We’re in the molten epicenter of summer, and that means people are doing their best to stay cool.
In the US this is pretty easy. Sit in your air-conditioned house, turn on the fan, go to the pool, or if you’re really desperate, go to the library and pretend you’re interested in reading a book for an afternoon.
But in Japan, the birthplace of technological innovations like the Walkman, the Nintendo Entertainment System, and used panty vending machines, they’ve come up with a new solution that’s completely ridiculous unless you think sitting in a human refrigerator is normal.

What you’re looking at is a Do Hiemon “personal cool box,” and it’s the future of cooling… assuming there aren’t any air-conditioned buildings, public pools, water-filled Gatorade coolers, or hand-held fans anywhere within reach.

The 2-foot-tall, 3.9-foot-deep stainless steel box uses a jet to spray air, maintaining a temperature of 59 degrees while directing even cooler 41-degree air to the wearer’s head and neck.
But this has a price. Buying one of these pups will set you back ¥1.5 million (or $9,200).
Sure, that gets the job done, but that’s a lot of fun when you say, “You know how I can pull all these weeds out from between the bricks of my back porch? Dynamite.” It’s like saying.
It will work, but it’s overkill.
I just like that the genesis of this technology innovation almost certainly came from someone opening the refrigerator on a hot day and saying, “Wait… what if we get people into this?”
