Schools may be closed if flooding, severe waterlogging, mudslides, road closures or other safety concerns affect students and staff, officials said. Any decisions regarding holidays or suspension of classes will be taken by local authorities after assessing ground conditions in individual areas.

With weather conditions expected to change rapidly, parents and students are advised to regularly check for updates issued by their schools, district collection offices and local education departments. Officials said residents should not rely solely on general weather forecasts and should verify announcements regarding school closures, revised schedules or weather advisories before traveling.
IMD issues orange alert for Thane and Palghar
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Thane and Palghar, predicting heavy to very heavy rains along with occasional strong winds in the next few hours.
While IMD has predicted wind speed of 50-60 kmph in both regions on Thursday, heavy rainfall is expected in parts of the Konkan region.
Mumbai continues to remain under yellow alert as the weather department has predicted intermittent heavy rains and strong winds of similar speeds in isolated areas. Citizens were asked to be careful as weather conditions change rapidly.
Heavy rain forecast in Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra
According to IMD, Konkan and Goa along with Madhya Maharashtra are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Isolated places in the mountainous and ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra may experience extremely heavy rain.
The ongoing rainfall is due to active monsoon conditions and moisture-laden winds are enhancing the rainfall along the Maharashtra coast. Heavy showers, gusty winds and waterlogging have already been recorded in many areas in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and nearby suburbs.
Weather experts have warned that persistent rainfall could lead to urban flooding, flash floods in sensitive areas, landslides in hilly areas and reduced visibility on roads. Travelers are advised to exercise caution when traveling, especially in areas prone to waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
Heavy showers and strong winds likely to continue across MMR
Mumbai and Mumbai Metropolitan Region are expected to witness more heavy rainfall as the active monsoon continues.
Earlier forecasts showed that Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Palghar may receive heavy rain with winds of 40-60 km per hour. Coastal areas like Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri are likely to experience very heavy rainfall, lightning strikes and strong winds of up to 50-70 km per hour.
The administration advised citizens to avoid unnecessary visits to beaches and coastal areas in adverse weather conditions. People traveling outdoors were also asked to carry umbrellas and rain protection due to the possibility of sudden showers.
