NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Long before Lindsey Graham became one of the most influential voices in American politics, he overcame extraordinary personal challenges on a journey that would take him from rural South Carolina to the U.S. Senate.
“They say Abe Lincoln was our log cabin president. I think Lindsey was our mobile home senator,” Graham’s law school roommate Warren Mowry said on a new Fox Nation special. “The Life and Legacy of Lindsey Graham.”
Through video clips and interviews from colleagues, friends, and former rivals, intimate traces of Graham’s life, from his humble upbringing and early family tragedy that resulted in the loss of his parents to his decades of public service, offer an intimate look at the experiences that shaped one of the Republican Party’s most influential lawmakers.

“Lindsey is obviously an American success story because she literally came from the humblest of beginnings,” said Kevin Bishop, Graham’s former communications director.
The special explores how adversity shapes Graham’s sense of responsibility, especially after his younger sister, Darline Graham, becomes Nordone’s legal guardian when their parents die just 15 months apart.
US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee evaluated Graham’s actions and said, “He became a caregiver, a guardian, so that he would not be declared an orphan and given to a foster family.”

Bishop separately described how Graham became “everything” Darline needed, stepping on stage to be “mom, dad… sounding board” and more.
“Darline will tell you that, and that’s why they were so close,” he said. “They were incredibly close and Lindsey loved him to death.”
Darline burst onto the scene in her own way following her brother’s death earlier this month, answering calls from President Donald Trump and South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster to fill her brother’s Senate seat for the remainder of his term.
