No evidence against Sanjeev Mukhiya in NEET-UG 2024 case: CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday (July 23, 2026) said that it has not found any evidence to show the complicity of Sanjeev Kumar alias Sanjeev Mukhiya in the NEET-UG 2024 case. He is also an accused in some other cases being investigated by the Bihar police.

In 2024, the State police detected paper theft and registered a case. at first glance The agency said that at this stage suspicion arose against Sanjeev Mukhiya and alleged his role as he was found to be involved in some other exam paper theft/leak cases.

“Accordingly, he was named as an accused in the said FIR by the Bihar police. The case was later handed over to the CBI for investigation,” he said.

The CBI said that during its investigation, every person involved in the theft and distribution of the stolen NEET-UG 2024 question paper and every candidate who benefited from its use was identified. “Accordingly, multiple charges have been filed against 45 persons by the CBI before the judicial court in Patna,” the agency said.

“Sanjeev Mukhiya continued to abscond throughout the relevant period. He was later arrested by the Bihar police in connection with other cases. Since he was an accused named in the FIR in the NEET-UG 2024 case as well, the CBI took him into police custody for investigation purposes…” he said.

The CBI did not file any charges against him as no evidence of his involvement in the NEET-UG case emerged. Therefore, in this case, he benefited from bail. “Sanjeev Mukhiya remained in judicial custody after being granted bail in the CBI case, he is also accused in some other cases being investigated by Bihar police,” CBI said.

“This issue has been sufficiently clarified in 2024. The narrative currently circulating that it was deliberately neglected is actually false,” he added.
