Rhinogydd wildfire spotted from space as helicopter brought in to tackle blaze

Residents said the smoke was causing “fog” and a “dry odor” that stretched for miles between Torfaen and Pontypool.

SWFRS warned residents to keep windows and doors closed and advised travelers to switch the air conditioning in their vehicles to recirculation mode.

The fire department said it had cut off the entire perimeter around the incident.

“This provides a containment line to keep the incident under control, supported by two additional water tankers from partners and contractors,” he said.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews continue to monitor the situation at Capelulo, near Sychnant Pass, following a massive grass fire on Mount Conwy.

Elsewhere, firefighters battled fires at Hope Mountain and Brymbo in the borough of Wrexham, Pentrefelin, Holyhead and Pentre Halkyn overlooking the A55 in Flintshire.

The fire service said they are continuing to monitor conditions as a precaution and crews from Mid and West Wales Fire Brigade are on hand to assist.
