Perth man to face court on child abuse material charges

A 76-year-old Perth man will appear in court on Friday after federal police allegedly found dozens of images and videos of child abuse on an electronic tablet seized during a raid on his home.

Australian Federal Police executed a search warrant at the man’s Westminster home on June 30; There he allegedly found a tablet containing images, videos and animated GIFs containing child abuse material.

The man is charged with accessing child abuse material and possession of child abuse material and faces a maximum prison sentence of 15 years for each count.

The man, who has been behind bars since his arrest on June 30, will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.

AFP Detective Acting Inspector Josh Gilmour said it was illegal to create, possess or distribute any child abuse material, real or animated.

“Anyone found to be engaging in this disgusting material will be subject to the full sanctions of the law,” he said.

“To those soliciting, possessing or sharing child abuse material, investigators are working tirelessly to identify you and bring you to the courts to face justice.”
