A man was fighting for his life in hospital after suffering serious head injuries following a reported attack, and police arrested him. Officers from Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of an assault on Brownley Court Road, Wythenshawe, at around 10.30am on Friday.

The man in his 40s was found at the scene and taken to hospital. The man suffered “life-threatening” injuries, according to police. Police arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of assault and he remained in custody for questioning on Friday afternoon.

In a statement, GMP said: “Officers responded to reports of an assault on Brownley Court Road, Wythenshawe, at around 10.30am this morning.

“When they arrived, a man in his 40s with a head injury was identified and taken to hospital for treatment. His condition remains life-threatening.

“A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault in Section 20 and is being held for questioning.”

Brownley Court Road crosses Hollyhedge Road near Benchill. A police cordon was established at the scene on Friday.
