PlayStation meltdown as gamers worldwide are denied access – as Sony vows to fix ‘as soon as possible’
Thousands of gamers reported having trouble accessing PlayStation Network as Sony confirmed that all its services were down.
Schoolchildren hoping to kick off the summer holidays by playing popular games such as Astro Bot and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 were among those left disappointed after the games giant announced the outage on Friday afternoon.
Tracking site Downdetector first started showing reported issues in the afternoon, with thousands of people reporting they were unable to connect to the network.
Sony-run PlayStation has confirmed that users are likely to experience issues when trying to sign in and manage their accounts, stream games and use the online store.
The network’s website said it was working to resolve the issues ‘as soon as possible’ but did not provide an estimate of when services might be back up and running or suggest why the outage might have occurred.

On social media platform X, players complained about not being able to log in, load games, or turn off their consoles.
Some expressed disappointment with the completion of the network, while others expressed concern over Sony’s plans to not release PlayStation games on discs starting in January 2028.
Someone wrote: ‘You can’t play digital games until we fix it. I can still insert my disc and play. ‘The all-digital future looks great.’
It comes after a pro-Iranian hacking group claimed responsibility for an alleged cyberattack on Microsoft 365 on Thursday, according to Site Intelligence Group, which tracks and analyzes extremist movements.
The group, called 313 Team, said it targeted Microsoft 365’s ‘core servers’ and caused outages in services such as SharePoint, Teams and OneDrive.
In a statement shared on its Telegram channel following the alleged attack, 313 Team said it continued to target western systems that were ‘actively used to serve the enemy’, adding that it had the right to avenge the death of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran’s former religious leader was killed in a US-backed Israeli airstrike in February.
PlayStation suffered an outage earlier this year in February that left thousands of people unable to connect to the network for more than 24 hours.
The Daily Mail has approached PlayStation for comment.
