Home Minister Amit Shah talks to slain policeman’s family in Kashmir; govt. to support studies of victim’s son

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the family members of the slain police officer on Friday, July 24, 2026 Ashik Husayn Qureshi, He was killed in a terror attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on July 22. Meanwhile, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also met the family.
Mr. Shah expressed his condolences and extended support to the victim’s son during the visit of BJP leader and Leader of Opposition (LOP) Sunil Sharma to the late police officer’s house in Budgam’s Beerwah area.

“I am grateful to Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji for personally speaking to the martyr’s son and assuring him of the government’s full support and assistance during this difficult time,” Mr. Sharma said.
Superintendent of Police Ashiq Hussain Kureshi was on Amarnath yatra duty in Anantnag market when a terrorist came down from a crowded lane and opened fire on him.
Mr. Sharma said his prayers are with the bereaved family at this difficult time. “I wish them the strength and courage to endure these irreparable losses,” he said.
LG Sinha, who visited Beerwah to meet the family members of the deceased, said that the entire nation is proud of this brave soul whose courage, sacrifice and devotion to duty will be etched in our collective memory.
“The martyr’s ideals of love of duty and patriotic honor will continue to inspire generations to build a peaceful and prosperous Union Territory,” he added.
J&K LG assured the family that the administration is with them and will ensure their welfare and dignity. A Lok Bhavan spokesperson said the LG has promised full support to the family until the victim’s son completes his education and becomes eligible for a compassionate government appointment.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sinha said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, significant progress has been made in eliminating the terror ecosystem in J&K. “I appealed to the entire society, especially the youth of J&K, to draw strength from the martyr’s dedication and devotion to Maa Bharti and stand united in the fight against terrorism,” Mr. Sinha said.
