“My statements to the media outside Parliament were maliciously doctored using artificial intelligence to create and distribute a deepfake video to spread misinformation,” Goyal said in his post.
He said strict legal action would be taken against anyone involved in creating, distributing or disseminating the allegedly fake video.
“Irresponsible misuse of artificial intelligence to mislead the public cannot and will not be tolerated,” the Union Minister said. he said.
Goyal also urged people to trust only verified and original sources for information: “I have full confidence that the informed and tech-savvy citizens of India, especially our youth, will not fall prey to such misinformation,” he added.
The government also debunked a video circulating on social media yesterday, which claimed that Goyal had made threatening remarks about students protesting in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Goyal on Friday said social activist Sonam Wangchuk ended her fast after receiving assurance from the government, adding that the decision reflects Wangchuk’s confidence in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s commitment to the country’s youth.

The Minister informed that BJP National President JP Nadda and Union Minister Jitendra Singh met Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram to address his concerns.

In his post, Goyal added: “The government has time and again reiterated its resolve to act decisively against paper leaks and strengthen examination reforms. The interests of the youth in the country remain the top priority for the government.”
