‘Dictatorship defeated!’: Chants, tricolour and dance at Jantar Mantar as Dharmendra Pradhan tenders resignation

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post on Saturday, July 25, 2026, over the NEET paper leak controversy, saying that it was not a matter of “individual prestige” for him. Mr. Pradhan said he was disturbed by a series of incidents that have come to light in the last 10 days and sent his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Protesters led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) were seen hugging each other and dancing on stage. While the meeting celebrated the resignation of the minister, many people said Dr. They carried portraits and posters of BR Ambedkar and described it as a victory of their agitation.

Speaking at the meeting, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the resignation showed the power of democratic protest.

“They would say this government has never seen resignation. We say the world will bend if there is anyone who can bend it,” he told the crowd.

However, Mr. Dipke said the agitation would continue despite Pradhan’s resignation. It sought compensation of ₹ 1 crore for the families of students who died by suicide in connection with the exam controversy and sought action against police personnel for their conduct during the protests on July 20.

Referring to the words of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Dipke said, “If you had not called us ‘cockroaches’, I would not have returned to India. If you had not called us ‘cockroaches’, the youth of the country would not have taken to the streets. If you had not called us ‘cockroaches’, Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation would not have happened.” While the celebrations continued under increased security measures in the protest area, these words received great applause from the meeting.

Vrutika (17), a Class 12 student from Mumbai who came to the protest site with her father, said the protest should continue until education reform is promised. He added that the protesters should also demand the Prime Minister’s resignation. “There are many urgent problems such as inflation, financial difficulties, violation of Constitutional values. I came here to fight for my right to education,” he said.
