South Australia records spike in bird flu cases

Cases of bird flu have skyrocketed in South Australia, with seven new cases confirmed.

Federal Agriculture Minister Julie Collins said several great crested terns were sent to a testing facility in Geelong to understand how the deadly virus was transmitted, ABC reported.

Ms Collins said there was no evidence of H5 bird flu in poultry or agricultural systems and there was a low risk to human health.

Five of the seven cases recorded in South Australia came from the same region.
