Defence is now more wasteful, secretive than during Coalition era

The Albanian government will do almost anything to avoid scrutiny of defense procurement, one of the worst performing areas and most worrying for taxpayers.

Despite promises to correct the Coalition’s procurement failures on major defense projects – the largest purchases the Commonwealth has undertaken – Labor’s performance has fallen below the already poor standards set by the previous government. This is according to a report by the Australian National Audit Office “Major Projects” report The series was launched by Parliament’s Joint Committee on Public Accounts and Audit in 2006 to provide parliament with additional transparency into Defense’s repeated and sometimes spectacular failures.
