Race-by-race preview and tips for Tuesday’s Bathurst meeting
John Schell
Choices based on a good piece.
Race 1
3. Last Round He had a few chances with seven starts to his name, but he was around and came into this situation after a fourth-last start at Goulburn when he had the chance. He is very unbeaten in this event and comes into it with an apprenticeship allowance from a good draw. A bold display is on the cards. 4. Champion He has made three of seven starts, including his last two outings at Kembla Grange. He’s a new trial winner who should keep up the mark in this regard. 9. Samoan Roman He made his debut after several attempts, winning the last one at Muswellbrook. It deserves respect. 1. Golden World He has bounced back from a spell twice, including his last sixth start at Gosford, and should find this an easier task.
How to play: Last Round WON.
Race 2
6. Sky Goddess She is a debutant Peltzer mare and had a trial at Illawarra Grange in preparation for her close-up runner-up. Looks like he has the talent to rock it. 10. Red Rocket He has performed well when beaten by less than half a length in both starts and can feature prominently. 8. Miner Friendly I ran well going on to second in Quirindi and I can run well again here. 1. Mr. Cacciatore He made two starts at Newcastle and Scone and finished fourth in both races and could come here on the strength of those efforts.
How to play: Sky Goddess in EVERY WAY.
Race 3
3. Devil Dancer making his debut here after a total of three attempts, including the last two defeats. He finished third last time at Warwick Farm and looks a leading contender. 4. Let go he is also debuting and has scored two tries. He won the last of these at Goulburn and has the talent to get through this. 7. Denise’s Daughter He appeared at Goulburn before the final fourth close at Moruya and re-emerged as a contender. 5. Moonlight Timber It went through two trials leading up to its debut and is being watched closely.
How to play: Devil Dancer WON.
Race 4
2. Comic Book Culture He was the Acton circuit winner at Canberra before finishing second at the same circuit. Since then he has finished second every time he has had the chance at Grafton and could perform well again in this one. 1. Yes Sir He was at his best in the final seconds of the restart at Goulburn and if he can maintain that form he could emerge again. 4. Smichov Two starts from sixth form at Newcastle were won here as first graders and should not be taken lightly. 5. Brass Monkeys He has made five of eight starts and has the talent to succeed.
Hhow to play: Comic Book Culture WON.
race 5
4. Yiasou Racing well with two wins at Warren and Dubbo, then racing quickly and fighting strongly in the final seconds of the start at Tamworth. Here he must go forward again and run a lot. 8. It Has to Be He is serviceable at best and has remained out of favor in his last two starts since failing at the Kensington circuit. 10. Italy He broke his maiden here three starts ago and has since finished eighth and fourth at Wyong and Goulburn respectively. 2. Like Lukey He was a Warren winner three races ago and ran well on the fourth last start at Tamworth.
How to play: Yiasou WON.
race 6
2. Gail Jeanette He races well with two wins from his last three starts. Both wins were at Dubbo during the rapid race, with the last eight wins at Rosehill falling in between. It’s ideally drawn here and can withstand plenty of running again. 5.Rileycat He was the Goulburn winner in February and has not raced since finishing fifth at Warwick Farm in early March. It looks pretty fresh and ready to run. 10. Golden Vader He won at Dubbo before finishing third at Tamworth and has been on a Speedway track at Rosehill ever since. Might come back to this company. 6. Tommy Brochure He has stayed out of favor in recent outings and could be a factor in his best form.
How to play: Gail Jeanette WON.
race 7
1. From Joker Having led the way at this track two starts ago, after a spell he was in second place and managed to take an emphatic victory. He followed that up with a third place finish at Dubbo when beaten by less than a length and he just needs to maintain that form to be hard to hold on to in this situation. 4. Miss Taurus He has been in poor form in his last two starts but is competent at best and can get up without being surprising. 5. Honey Slider He won a couple of times before running home well for a final third at Dubbo and could emerge again despite a wide draw. 2. Jamacri He was in fine form with wins at Warren and Dubbo before his fifth last start at Newcastle and is being watched closely here.
How to play: Joker is from WIN.
