Chilling video released after boy, 3, ‘thrown’ into crocodile enclosure at UK zoo | UK | News
A chilling video has emerged from inside the crocodile sanctuary where a three-year-old child was attacked last month. A child who was allegedly kept in the Tropical House at Johnsons of Old Hurst, near Huntingdon, on June 18th has undergone seven operations.
Following the incident, Cambridgeshire Police said a 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and bailed until September 18. Officers said he was “assessed as unfit for interview.”
Video from last year shows the area where the crocodiles were kept, with owner Andy Johnson saying: “I personally believe this is one of the most spectacular displays in nature.” He also said the crocodile could be heard “right across the farm”, adding that it “echoed like a lion’s roar”.
In a message shared via GoFundMe earlier this month, the family said the boy had his seventh surgery at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he was admitted after the incident. The message also read: “In that surgery, surgeons performed a nerve graft on his left arm.
“They removed a nerve from his leg to replace part of the missing nerve in his left arm. We hope that over time this nerve will settle and help our son regain some function in his left hand. We won’t know if the nerve graft was successful until tests are done in a few months.”
The fundraising page also added that the boy’s condition “is currently stable but he faces a long road to recovery.” Andy and Tracey Johnson, managers of Johnsons of Old Hurst, said the incident was “one of the saddest events” their family and staff had ever experienced.
The Tropical House and Johnsons of Old Hurst farm store at the Cambridgeshire zoo, which includes the crocodile enclosure, have been temporarily closed “out of respect for the family”. It has now fully reopened. Ms. Johnson, co-owner of the zoo, reportedly jumped into the enclosure to save the child.
