The 20 best new car bargains: How to save up to £12,800 on a popular 76-plate model in September

September is one of the biggest months of the year for the new-car market and This is Money can exclusively reveal the 20 best deals on motors carrying the new 76 registration plate.

And there are some huge savings to be had.

Analysis by independent new-car pricing specialist Insider Car Deals has identified discounts of more than £12,000 on popular models, while some examples are available with more than a quarter knocked off their list price.

And they’re all big names, too.

Vauxhall, Peugeot, BMW, Audi and Toyota are among the brands slashing the most money from the retail prices published in brochures and carmakers’ websites.

There’s everything from petrol cars to the latest hybrids and electric vehicles. We’ve even found a standout discount on a diesel model, despite oil-burners becoming an increasingly rare sight in showrooms in 2026.

Here’s our countdown of the new cars you can save thousands on before the end of the month.

Which brands’ showrooms are worth visiting this month? We reveal the 20 best discounts of new 76-plate cars, if you’re willing to barter with a salesman or woman…

The September and March plate-change months are always the busiest periods of the year for car makers, as they capitalise on increased showroom demand by rolling out tempting offers and incentives.

This includes manufacturers’ September promotional offers and finance deals designed to tempt buyers into placing a deposit on a 76-plate car.

And sales staff are typically given more wiggle room to extend discounts if it means luring a customer away from a rival showroom just down the road.

However, eye-catching headline savings don’t necessarily mean you’ve found the very best deal.

Avoid overpaying for your new car

Buying a new car can mean hours researching prices, comparing finance offers and negotiating with dealers. Insider Car Deals can do it all for you.

Its Bespoke To You personal car-buying service helps you choose the right car for you and your budget, establishes the best price you should really be paying, then negotiates and arranges the deal with a franchised dealer on your behalf.

Behind it is independent market research and mystery shopping of UK dealers, which often uncovers a significant gap between the discount dealers initially offer and what is actually achievable.

Insider Car Deals does not sell cars or receive commission from dealers or manufacturers. Customers pay for its expertise, so its advice remains independent

Insider Car Deals’ research regularly uncovers a discount gap between the ‘best price’ initially offered by a salesperson and the bigger saving buyers can realistically achieve through tougher negotiation and market knowledge.

‘A dealer can show you a saving of several thousand pounds and understandably it looks like a fantastic deal,’ says founder Pat Hoy.

‘But the important question is whether that really is as far as the dealer is prepared to go.

‘Manufacturer incentives and PCP deposit contributions can make an offer look extremely generous, but these are generally available across the dealer network.

‘The real difference is how much of its own margin an individual dealer is prepared to contribute on top.

‘That’s where knowing what is genuinely achievable becomes important. On some cars the difference isn’t huge. On others, shopping around and negotiating properly can potentially leave hundreds, or even thousands, of pounds more in the buyer’s pocket.’

Insider Car Deals independently tracks new-car prices and finance offers across the UK and mystery-shops franchised dealers to establish what buyers should realistically aim to pay if they persistently haggle.

It also uses that market intelligence through its Bespoke To You car-buying service to research and arrange new-car purchases for customers.

The prices below therefore show what is genuinely possible in today’s market, rather than discounts buyers should expect every dealer to offer automatically.

Are huge new car discounts fair for loyal owners who paid full price just months ago?

1. Vauxhall Frontera Electric – 34.8% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: 83kW GS 44kWh

Retail price: £27,195

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £17,728 (£9,467 saving)

PCP monthly payments: £179 / 10.9% APR

The biggest discount is on the Vauxhall Frontera Electric, which only hit UK showrooms late last year

The biggest discount is on the Vauxhall Frontera Electric, which only hit UK showrooms late last year

While some manufacturers are beginning to ease back on EV discounts, Vauxhall is going all-in on the electric Frontera until the end of September.

The 10.9 per cent PCP APR is more than double the market average but the combination of manufacturer support and dealer discounts still makes this a highly competitive offer.

Buyers should therefore look beyond the interest rate alone and focus on the overall cost of the deal, which – with some haggling – could ultimately save them almost £9,500.

2. Peugeot e-2008 – 28.5% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: 115kW GT 54kWh

Retail price: £31,645

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £22,624 (£9,021 saving)

PCP monthly payments: £276 / 8.5% APR

Peugeot's compact crossover offering - the e-2008 - comes with a total potential discount of more than £9,000

Peugeot’s compact crossover offering – the e-2008 – comes with a total potential discount of more than £9,000

Peugeot has chopped and changed its discount strategy in recent months, switching between cash savings, finance deposit contributions and varying PCP interest rates.

As with the Frontera, the APR on PCP deals is on the high side, but substantial dealer and manufacturer incentives help offset the extra cost and save buyers just over £9,000 on the list price.

It’s another reminder that buyers should judge the entire package rather than focus on one headline figure.

3. Audi A5 Saloon PHEV – 25.9% discount

Fuel type: Plug-in hybrid

Trim: eHYBRID 299ps Quattro Technik S tronic

Retail price: £49,505

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £36,684 (£12,821 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £381 / 8.5% APR

Buyers can negotiate nearly £13,000 off the price of a new Audi A5 saloon, though only if they haggle and opt for PCP finance

Buyers can negotiate nearly £13,000 off the price of a new Audi A5 saloon, though only if they haggle and opt for PCP finance

Growing demand for hybrids has prompted manufacturers to push some models harder.

Strong PCP deposit support from Audi, combined with a generous achievable dealer discount, allows buyers to cut the cost of this A5 plug-in hybrid by around a quarter.

4. Seat Leon – 25.8% discount

Fuel type: Petrol

Trim: 1.5 TSI 115 SE DAP

Retail price: £25,995

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £19,270 (£6,725 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £210 / 6.9% APR

With the Seat Leon mechanically almost identical to a VW Golf, it's a great family hatchback option. With a quarter off the list price, it's an attractive proposition in September

With the Seat Leon mechanically almost identical to a VW Golf, it’s a great family hatchback option. With a quarter off the list price, it’s an attractive proposition in September

Seat has often struggled to reach the top of buyers’ shortlists in the fiercely competitive family-car sector, despite benefiting from Volkswagen Group engineering.

But a saving of more than 25 per cent, combined with PCP payments of just £210 a month, makes the Leon a far more attractive proposition. A 1.5 TSI petrol in entry SE trim, for example, can be had for £6,725 below list price.

5. BMW iX2 – 23.9% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: eDrive20 65kWh 150kW Sport

Retail price: £37,065

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £28,209 (£8,856 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £292 / 7.9% APR

Pat says BMW is having to heavily discount some of the cars in its EV line-up. This includes the iX2

Pat says BMW is having to heavily discount some of the cars in its EV line-up. This includes the iX2

BMW is having to discount parts of its electric range heavily to remain competitive, although the recent increase in PCP APR from 2.9 to 7.9 per cent suggests its strategy may be evolving.

The iX2 SUV coupe also qualifies for the £3,750 Government Electric Car Grant.

Buyers shouldn’t assume that manufacturers and dealers will maintain the same level of discount that’s available today, however, making it essential to strike a deal this month if you want to pocket over £8,500 on the list price.

6. Toyota C-HR – 23.4% discount

Fuel type: Hybrid

Trim: 1.8 Hybrid 140 Icon

Retail price: £31,695

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £24,294 (£7,401 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £268 / 6.9% APR

The Toyota C-HR is a very popular compact SUV. Yet, dealers are willing to knock over £6,000 off the list price this month

The Toyota C-HR is a very popular compact SUV. Yet, dealers are willing to knock over £6,000 off the list price this month

The total achievable discount on the Toyota C-HR has improved significantly since the March plate change, rising from 20.9 per cent, or £6,345, to 23.4 per cent, which works out at £7,401.

There is a catch, though: PCP APR has risen from 4.9 per cent to 6.9 per cent.

It is another example of manufacturers pushing hybrids harder as they occupy the middle ground between traditional petrol models and fully electric alternatives.

7. MG S5 EV – 23.3% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: 125kW SE EV 49kWh

Retail price: £28,995

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £22,244 (£6,751 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £195 / 0 per cent APR

Chinese car brands are relatively reluctant to move on price at the moment, though one MG dealership is willing to knock £6,500 off an S5 EV

Chinese car brands are relatively reluctant to move on price at the moment, though one MG dealership is willing to knock £6,500 off an S5 EV

The interest-free PCP deal is one of the standout attractions here, alongside MG’s £3,750 EV incentive designed to replicate the Government’s grant (for which no Chinese car qualifies).

Dealers are not always keen to sacrifice much of their own margin, meaning shopping around can make a substantial difference. Insider Car Deals found one dealership willing to knock over £6,500 off the list price.

At 23.3 per cent, the achievable discount on an S5 EV is far higher than the segment average of 13.4 per cent, making this one of the strongest EV offers currently available.

8. Skoda Kamiq – 22.8% discount

Fuel type: Petrol

Trim: 1.0 TSI 95 SE Edition

Retail price: £25,535

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £19,710 (£5,825 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £210 / 6.4% APR

The Skoda Kamiq is one of the best small petrol crossovers on the market in terms of quality and value for money. A near-£6k saving in September is a cracking deal

The Skoda Kamiq is one of the best small petrol crossovers on the market in terms of quality and value for money. A near-£6k saving in September is a cracking deal

Skoda has followed Volkswagen’s lead by using larger PCP deposit contributions to make its offers more appealing.

Dealers can be quick to highlight manufacturer support instead of contributing more themselves.

This is a classic example of the Discount Gap in action. Buyers who negotiate and know what level of dealer contribution is achievable can unlock a much stronger overall deal worth almost £6,000 on an entry trim.

9. Peugeot 208 – 21.9% discount

Fuel type: Petrol hybrid

Trim: 1.2 Hybrid 110 Allure e-DSC6

Retail price: £24,345

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £19,013 (£5,332 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £210 / 8.5% APR

While most might expect the electric e-208 to be the most discounted of Peugeot's supermini options, Insider Car Deals says the petrol hybrid presents the best savings of all

While most might expect the electric e-208 to be the most discounted of Peugeot’s supermini options, Insider Car Deals says the petrol hybrid presents the best savings of all

Discounts on the Peugeot 208 are not quite as generous as they were in March, when total savings approached 27 per cent, reflecting continuing demand for the popular supermini.

Nevertheless, there is still a healthy dealer discount available alongside generous manufacturer support, creating a total saving of more than £5,300 for a 1.2-litre Hybrid 110 Allure.

10. Audi Q4 e-tron – 21.4% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: 63kWh 204ps Sport

Retail price: £46,260

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £36,383 (£9,877 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £417 / 6.5% APR

If you're in the market for a premium family SUV with electric power, the Audi Q4 e-tron is one of the better choices. And for the rest of this month, you can save up to £10k on a new one

If you’re in the market for a premium family SUV with electric power, the Audi Q4 e-tron is one of the better choices. And for the rest of this month, you can save up to £10k on a new one

The Audi Q4 e-tron is another example of EV discounts stabilising after reaching exceptionally high levels earlier in the year.

The achievable saving is slightly lower than it was in March but almost £10,000 off a premium electric SUV still represents a substantial reduction from the list price.

11. Ford Puma Gen-E – 20.8% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: 124kW Select 47kWh

Retail price: £29,995

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £23,750 (£6,245 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £247 / 2.9% APR

The Puma Gen-E is the electric variant of Britain’s best-selling new car. Yet, Ford dealers are knocking up to £6,245 off the list price this month

Ford’s low-rate PCP finance, the top-tier £3,750 Government Electric Car Grant and a healthy dealer discount combine to keep the Puma Gen-E competitive in a fiercely contested part of the EV market.

The package has actually improved since March, with the total discount increasing from 17.5 per cent to 20.8 per cent, which translates to a cash saving of almost £6,250.

12. Skoda Octavia Hatchback – 20.8% discount

Fuel type: Petrol

Trim: 1.5 TSI SE Technology

Retail price: £28,505

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £22,564 (£5,941 saving)

You’ll struggle to find many family cars as practical and good value as the Skoda Octavia. Insider Car Deals says you can save up to £6,000 on an entry trim level with a petrol engine

Skoda salespeople are not always generous when negotiations first begin, Pat says. Instead, they often point buyers towards the model’s strengths and Skoda’s £3,750 PCP deposit contribution.

However, manufacturer support should not be confused with a dealer’s own discount. Buyers willing to negotiate can secure savings of more than 20 per cent, which amounts to almost £6,000 off the list price of an entry-spec 1.5-litre petrol.

13. Toyota Aygo X – 20.5% discount

Fuel type: Hybrid

Trim: 1.5 Hybrid Icon

Retail price: £21,645

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £17,217 (£4,428 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £176 / 6.9% APR (3.5-year term)

Pat says it is a rarity for Toyota to offer big deals on its smaller cars. So a £4,428 saving on an Aygo X Hybrid in September shouldn't be sniffed at

Pat says it is a rarity for Toyota to offer big deals on its smaller cars. So a £4,428 saving on an Aygo X Hybrid in September shouldn’t be sniffed at

Pat says it is very unusual to see this level of discount applied to a small Toyota, suggesting the Japanese marque is being very generous with the Aygo X, especially with its £3,250 PCP deposit contribution.

Dealers may initially be reluctant to add much more from their own margin but the Insider Car Deals’ mystery shoppers unlocked a further saving taking the total discount on a 1.5 Hybrid Icon to over £4,400.

14. Nissan Juke – 19.8% discount

Fuel type: Petrol

Trim: 1.0 DIG-T 114ps Acenta Premium

Retail price: £26,765

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £21,465 (£5,300 saving)

Nissan dealers are traditionally willing to move the goalposts on the price of a Juke. And this month, Insider Car Deals says you can get £5,300 off some variants of the popular crossover

Nissan has consistently offered generous manufacturer support and dealer discounts to keep models such as the Juke crossover competitive at the crucial monthly-payment level.

A £5,300 saving and PCP payments of £210 per month make this one of the most affordable SUV deals on the list.

15. Volkswagen Golf – 19.7% discount

Fuel type: Petrol

Trim: 1.5 eTSI 150 7-speed Style DSG

The VW Golf remains Britain's favourite conventional family hatchback. Yet dealers will knock over £6,500 off the list price for a 76-plate car this month

The VW Golf remains Britain’s favourite conventional family hatchback. Yet dealers will knock over £6,500 off the list price for a 76-plate car this month

The total discount on a Golf has dipped slightly since March but the evergreen family hatchback still represents strong value, with its 19.7 per cent saving comfortably ahead of the 14.6 per cent segment average identified by Insider Car Deals.

Volkswagen is using sizeable PCP deposit contributions to support sales, though buyers should not let that manufacturer money replace a proper dealer discount.

Pat says his mystery shoppers found salesman willingness to discount the Golf varies significantly across the country, with the most his team could save amounting to £6,500.

16. Audi Q6 e-tron – 19.5% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: 83kWh 252ps Sport

Retail price: £60,565

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £48,747 (£11,818 saving)

The Audi Q6 e-tron isn’t cheap. However, buyerso f this electric SUV can get almost £12,000 off the asking price

Audi is backing its luxury electric SUV with a £6,450 PCP deposit contribution, as well as scope for a sizeable dealer discount.

The Q6 e-tron remains an expensive car, but almost £12,000 off the list price and monthly PCP payments of £540 make it considerably more attainable.

The 6.5 per cent APR is not especially low, underlining the importance of assessing every element of a finance package rather than focusing solely on the monthly cost.

17. Mazda CX-60 – 19.1% discount

Fuel type: Diesel

Trim: 3.3 e-Skyactiv mHEV 254 Exclusive-Line AWD

Retail price: £50,100

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £40,512 (£9,588 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £349 / 0% APR

For buyers in the market for a massive family SUV with diesel power, look no further than the XC-60 from Mazda. Dealers will shave almost £10,000 off the list price of specific trims

This is the only diesel model in the top 20 of biggest discounts, and the CX-60’s 19.1 per cent saving comfortably outperforms the 11.1 per cent average for the large SUV segment.

The other major attraction is the interest-free PCP offer, helping keep monthly payments for the featured version down to £349. In total, buyers can save almost £10k on the list price of this sizable family car.

18. Volkswagen Polo – 19.1% discount

Fuel type: Petrol

Trim: 1.0 TSI 95PS Black Edition

Retail price: £25,910

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £21,008 (£4,902 saving)

Volkswagen’s Polo remains one of the best-quality superminis on the market. Discounts are rare, making the opportunity to save almost £5,000 too good to miss in September

Volkswagen is offering PCP deposit contributions of up to £3,000, reducing pressure on dealers to sacrifice more of their own margin.

However, dealers will still compete for business if buyers are persistent and know what level of discount is achievable.

A total saving of 19.1 per cent, or close to £5,000, including Volkswagen’s finance support, can be secured by those who barter hardest.

19. Peugeot 5008 – 19.0% discount

Fuel type: Hybrid

Trim: 1.2 Hybrid 145 GT e-DSC6

Retail price: £41,995

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £34,013 (£7,982 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £407 / 8.5% APR

Peugeot dealers are typically open to discounting, and the 5008 Hybrid is one model that’s subject to savings of 19% this month

The Peugeot 5008 may not feature on every large SUV buyer’s shortlist, but almost £8,000 in combined dealer and manufacturer savings makes it difficult to overlook.

A £407 monthly PCP payment for the 1.2 Hybrid 145 GT e-DSC6 also places a large seven-seat SUV within reach of buyers shopping primarily to a budget.

20. Volkswagen Tiguan – 17.4% discount

Fuel type: Petrol

Trim: 1.5 eTSI 130PS Match DSG7

Retail price: £39,140

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £32,315 (£6,825 saving)

PCP monthly payments:** £357 / 7.9% APR

The latest iteration of VW's volume-selling Tiguan hasn't been on sale for long in the UK, yet you can save almost £7,000 on a mild-hybrid petrol model in the mid-spec Match trim

The latest iteration of VW’s volume-selling Tiguan hasn’t been on sale for long in the UK, yet you can save almost £7,000 on a mild-hybrid petrol model in the mid-spec Match trim

Not much has changed since March in terms of the Tiguan’s achievable discount or PCP APR. However, monthly payments have fallen from £370 to £357.

That’s because Volkswagen has increased the Guaranteed Future Value it assigns to the vehicle, reducing the amount buyers repay during the agreement.

It serves as a useful reminder that a lower monthly payment does not necessarily mean a larger discount, and that understanding how a PCP deal is structured is essential when comparing offers.
